The iconic house from the popular 90s TV show "Family Matters" is set to be demolished in Chicago.

The house, located at 1416 W. Wrightwood Ave, was used for exterior shots in the beloved sitcom and has since become a popular tourist destination.

History of the House

The house was built in the late 1800s and served as a single-family residence until it was converted into a multi-unit building in the 1920s.

In the 1990s, it was used as the exterior for the Winslow family home on "Family Matters." The show, which aired from 1989 to 1998, was a staple of American television and remains a beloved part of pop culture.

Reasons for Demolition

According to reports, the building has fallen into disrepair and is no longer habitable.

The owner of the property has decided to demolish the building and construct a new development in its place.

Outpouring of Support

Fans of "Family Matters" and those who have fond memories of the iconic house have expressed their disappointment at the news of its demolition.

A petition has been created in an effort to save the house and many have taken to social media to voice their support.

Conclusion

The demolition of the "Family Matters" house marks the end of an era for fans of the show and for those who have memories of visiting the iconic building.

Although the structure may be gone, the memories and legacy of the show will live on through its devoted fanbase.

Family Matters is an award-winning sitcom, which was created by actress Meg Ryan and has been broadcasting on NBC since 2021.

The series chronicles the day in, day out activities of a middle-class American family. It follows the antics of the Dine Club (including Meg Ryan's mother), the Ryan family, and their assorted friends and co-workers. Family Matters has been sharpening viewers' appetites for sitcoms on TV since it first aired.

Family Matters House 2021

It became such a critical hit that it was canceled after three seasons, but has since been revived for a fourth season. The show is scheduled to return for a fifth season in the fall. Like many sitcoms, Family Matters has been successful in building a large fan base.

However, it is also well-known for being one of the most difficult comedies to follow due to the long length of the show's episodes.

The first season was notoriously short lived due to the high popularity of the show, but the cast and ensemble seemed to find a way to help make up for it by creating some fantastic one-liners, excellent music, and songs and by sticking with the premise of a traditional American family sitcom.

It is easy to compare Family Matters to other successful sitcoms of recent years like Happy Days. Both have been popular shows for a very short amount of time, yet both have experienced massive increases in audience ratings during their second and third seasons.

In fact, ABC has even moved forward with a spin-off of Happy Days, which is expected to air shortly after the original series concludes. However, the difference between Family Matters and Happy Days is that Happy Days actually lasted for five seasons. The average television sitcom lifespan is between four and seven seasons.

In contrast, Family Matters has only been on air for three seasons. The show got off to a slow start but has since been one of the most popular shows in television. It has consistently ranked among the top ten most watched programs in basic cable television and has often ranked as the most watched program in the Saturday night time slot, behind only Friends and Family.

The show has also received many accolades, including winning a Writers Guild Award for Outstanding Comedy Series and being one of the most rated shows on TV, both in the ratings and among viewers.

The story of Family Matters is about two families: the Shanygne and the McCrary. They are raised in a small country community, where the parents are very accepting of their daughter's boyfriend, David, who is described as "articulate and creative".

David is a bass player for a band called "The Believers", but his best friend is Shanygne, who go to school and are active in the church. Throughout the first few episodes, it is clear that Shanygne develops an emotional bond with David, making for a good supporting character.

The two begin to have troubles in their relationship, but are helped by a caring and supportive father, played by Ian McShane, who ends up becoming one of the pivotal characters in the story.

In the fourth episode, titled "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", the smoke is thrown in the church, causing everyone in the church to faint. This is where the relationship between Shanygne and David starts to suffer, as David begins to deny that he is a smoker and Shanygne becomes increasingly distrustful of him.

Things get even worse when David gets kicked out of his own church, so he packs his bags and moves to a halfway house. His mother contacts Miller-Boyett productions, who create a DVD to give to David and Shanygne, which features unseen footage from the period when they move into their new home.

Family Matters House tells the story of a young woman named Shanygne Williams, who moves to a small town in Mississippi with her grandmother and younger brother when her family takes a trip south.

Once there, they encounter a sadistic plantation owner named plantationsmoker, who owns the Smokespot restaurant and later, at Shanygne and her grandmother's request, sets her on an ill-fated mission to retrieve a stash of counterfeit Rolex watches hidden within a mountain stream.

However, the mountain stream proves to be too dangerous and the couple is swept away in a river boat, crash landing on an island owned by their friend, Mandy.

There, they must use every ounce of courage and determination they have to help Mandy and secure the release of the platinum wristwatch.

Although this is just an example of the plot, any story of a young person finding themselves in a desperate situation can become a great deal more entertaining when it is properly developed and used.

This award winning drama becomes even more compelling when it is paired with the most amazing supporting cast. In the film, which was created by award winning screenwriters Aaron Sorkin and Greg Garcia, the two amazing actors playing the roles of Shanygne Williams and Alyssa Milano have a chemistry that simply creates a firm foundation for any romantic comedy.

The two women in the film such as Jay Pharoah as Davis Brody and Jessica Hebert as Holly Gardner really brings life to the otherwise lifeless roles.

Couple this with the incredible supporting cast and you have a must see film that anyone with an open mind should not miss.
